Billboards for Peace
an article by Linda Speel

Peaceroots Alliance announces our fall billboard campaign, targeting the swing states, which encourages voting with our "Wake Up America! Vote For a Change" billboard.

Thanks to our fundraisers and a donor who "resonated with our 'Peace is Patriotic' billboard in Oakland, CA" we have 65 billboards, bus sides and transit shelter signs going up in September and October 2004! In time for the November 2nd election. Billboards will be in the following places:

10 in Miami, Florida

10 in Orlando, Florida

9 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

6 in Columbus, Ohio

5 in Akron-Canton, Ohio

2 in Des Moines, Iowa

2 in Kansas City, Missouri

We have 12 city bus-side signs in Cleveland, Ohio; and 5 transit signs in Minneapolis and 2 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

We also have 1 up now in Olympia, Washington sponsored by the peace group "Free to Disagree" which puts up a monthly billboard. They asked if they could use our image, "Peace is Patriotic"?, which our artist reworked showing both our website addresses. This will be up through September. Our "Wake Up America! Vote for a Change" billboard will be up there in October too. We are making alliances with more peace groups!

Besides the 65 signs that will soon be up, our signs were visible in NYC during the convention; and posters are going up in Portland and Ashland, OR, Philadelphia, PA, Boston, MA, Santa Fe, NM. and Tucson, AZ. One hundred posters were distributed to women?s shelters in Nashville, TN.

Peaceroots Alliance West will be at the Power to the Peaceful Concert with Michael Franti in Golden Gate Park, Sept. 11th and the Petaluma Progressive Festival, Sept 26th. Come on by and see us.

See our website to download posters and get more information about the billboards and other projects, including our Conscientious Objector project, the More Than Warmth Quilt project, and our "Don't get caught in a Draft" poster teaching about military recruitment in our schools.

PRA is a non profit, tax deductible organization that welcomes donations tocontinue our projects.

Hello
Being as the majority of people receive their news and form their opinions based on what they see on TV and in the newspapers,
why not have news about peace?  At least it helps form the idea
that PEACE is a possibility, that people are thinking, living, practicing, developing and LOVING peace!!!

PEACE makes you feel GOOD....
No one ever said that about war/violence.
