Helena Vigil Against the War and In Support of Cindy Sheehan and Military Families
an article by Helena Peace Seekers
We've just finished making arrangements to host a Vigil
for Cindy Sheehan -- mother of Army Specialist Casey Sheehan who was
killed in Iraq, as she continues her vigil outside President Bush’s
ranch in Crawford, Texas. She was recently joined by more moms who lost
a child in Iraq and other military families. Meanwhile President Bush
continues his five-week vacation and pledged Thursday to keep U.S.
troops in Iraq—meaning more moms will lose a child.
.... Hosted by the Helena Peace Seekers and the Episcopal Peace Fellowship of Montana
... Our gathering: A vigil of songs, poems, reports and
sharings to support Cindy Sheehan, other Gold Star Mothers and Helena's
own Tammara Rosenleaf waiting in Crawford, Texas (and Doug Reid of
Livingston, Montana now on his way to join them)... waiting to talk
with George Bush about why their sons and daughters were killed in his
illegal, unnecessary and disastrous war in Iraq ...
... and to support Helena's military families, distressed and
fearful for our Helena solders in Iraq and Afghanistan and getting
ready to stand in opposition to Bush's folly.
Here is what Cindy Sheehan said about the vigils:
"I invite mothers everywhere to stand up with me so that no more of our
sons and daughters lose their lives for a war based on lies and
deception. Join me in demanding the truth — and an end to the war — by
organizing vigils across the country, before one more mother's child is
lost."
You can sign up for the Vigil for Cindy Sheehan we're hosting, Wednesday, August 17, 2005 7:30PM at: http://www.moveonpac.org/event/cindyvigils/4246
Cindy has asked supporters to start candlelight vigils in their
communities to support her and call for an end to the war. So, MoveOn
is teaming up with True Majority and Democracy for America to host
Vigils for Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday, August 17th, to show our
solidarity with Cindy.
Our vigil will be simple and dignified. Together, we'll
acknowledge the sacrifices made by Cindy Sheehan, her son, Casey and
the more than 1,800 brave American men and women who have given their
lives in Iraq—and their moms and families.

Last
night's Vigils for Cindy Sheehan were the largest event we've ever
organized. With the help of TrueMajority and Democracy for America, we
held 1,627 vigils together in all 50 states and the District of
Columbia. Well over 100,000 of us attended, from Alaska to Florida,
Maine to Mississippi, Oregon to South Carolina and New York to Texas.
Here's
Cindy's report, from her own vigil in Crawford: "Our candlelight vigil
at Camp Casey was beautiful. There were hundreds of people here and we
are hearing that hundreds of people were involved in vigils around the
country. We at Camp Casey are so amazed and gratified that there were
almost 1700 vigils around the country."
You can see pictures from the vigils, read reports, and look at a map of all the vigil locations at:

The vigils were covered by hundreds of media outlets across the nation.. . ...more.
