Our Voices Together- Honoring the Lives of Victims of Terrorism
an article by Misha Seay
OUR VOICES TOGETHER is a nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization that aims to use their collective voices and resources to
support and encourage worthwhile international projects, foster
goodwill and promote understanding. In doing so, they honor those who
have lost their lives to terrorist attacks around the world by donating
resources and time to positive community projects. These are people who
have lost a family member, loved one, or friend on the events of
September 11th, and were showed an amazing outpouring of goodwill from
friends and strangers. They are grateful for such generosity and are
determined to generate even more good out of the tragedy.
Some examples of the action they have taken are: Board Member
Len Burman lost his friend Leslie Whittington on 9/11 and subsequently
raised more than $100,000 to support health care in Haiti by cycling
across the U.S. with his son. In addition, Advisory Board Member Sally
Goodrich lost her son Peter on 9/11. An administrator for schools in
North Adams, MA, Sally raised $180,000 to build and maintain a girls'
school in Afghanistan. They are also involved in numerous other
international projects that you may find on their website.
You do not need to have lost a loved one on 9/11 or other
terrorist acts to join them, but only to share their mission of
honoring lost loved ones. The ultimate goal is to allow other people
around the world to live honorable lives as well; for this reason, many
projects are provided to help women and children, the poor, and victims
of terrorism or violence. Do you have any further suggestions as to how
these families and others might positively contribute their resources
and time to other community projects? Would you like to get involved?
Please help support Our Voices Together in building a safer, more compassionate world.
