Life-Link Friendship Schools in Iran

The independent Life-Link Friendship-Schools program, coordinated from Uppsala City in Sweden, today attracts 64 schools in Iran. Life-Link chairperson Med Dr Hans Levander has visited Tehran four times since the year 2000 to meet with the Iranian ministry of Education as well as teachers and students in order to follow up promotion of the Life-Link program based on natural and social sciences.

During the recent visit early October 2012 Dr Levander met with Mr Ali Asghar Yazdani (Ph.D) Acting Minister of Education for International Affairs and Head of the Center for International Affairs & Schools Abroad. The Life-Link program initiated already in 1987 was presented. A joint proposal was agreed upon to initiate a Water for Life campaigns in schools around common watersheds such as the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. The basic Life-Link program could be extended to more schools in Iran. Dr Yazdani proposed future cooperation based on a Memorandum of Understanding.

Follow up meetings included a school visit gathering teachers and students from eight schools, as well as a round table discussion Sustainable Life-Style - Sustainable Peace at the Tehran Peace Museum .

Finally Dr Levander was invited as key note speaker at an international International Scientific Conference on Education and Globalization. (www.igcd.org) gathering more than 200 delegates including international lecturers and scholars from 28 countries.

In conclusion. It is not only possible, but also recommended for Iranian schools to profit from the Life-Link pedagogic program with focus on health and environment and sustainability. This program also offers to participating schools world-wide to exchange protocols and experiences from locally performed actions, performed within the ethics of Care for Myself – Care for Others – Care for Nature. The Life-Link program has recognitions and recommendations from UN / UNESCO campaigns such as Culture of Peace, Education for Sustainable Development and Water for Life.
