A Little Peace and H.O.P.E Transitional Shelter for Women
an article by Holly Green-Redkey, Megan Aday

A Little Peace and H.O.P.E Transitional Shelter for Women (peaceandhope1818.wix.com/peaceandhope) was founded by Artina Freeman in Chicago, Illinois on July 1, 2012 and is still in development. A Little Peace and H.O.P.E.'s mission is to provide women of the Chicago area ages 17 to 25 a safe transitional House that will empower them to become self-sufficient and free from mental, emotional, and physical abuse. This is a non-profit organization that is spiritually based that will use scriptures to educate young women to overcome any negative thinking that brought them to the unhealthy decisions they have made. The organization helps women heal from; homelessness, prostitution, domestic violence, cutting, sex trafficking, mental abuse, drug abuse, eating disorders, etc. They want to help transition women from their bad habits into new transformed minds and have peace with themselves and move onto better things.

The women directing this organization are very driven in their beliefs of helping young women get right with their lives and do something good with their selves. The directors themselves have been through some of these situations and have overcome their obstacles. They wish they had something like this at their times of struggle to help them and they want to make available things they didn’t have to help the transition for young women going through the very same things. This ministry has had domestic violence discussions in Chicago, Illinois. They have also held a “Fashionista Gala Banquet” to raise money to help get their house up and running. The house itself is still in the works and they are hoping to have it up by 2014. They are looking for donations such as bedroom and home furniture and are still in the market for a house. They need a house with 4 or 5 big to medium size bedrooms, two full or 2 ½ baths, full basement, shed or garage and if possible a medium to large kitchen and dining area. A Little Peace & H.O.P.E can be contacted on facebook as well as on their website as A Little Peace And H.O.P.E.

Latest reader comment:

There are certainly more shelters in North America & Europe than elsewhere. A colleague in Uganda tells me that 66% of the women are beaten; they are raped & contacted with AIDS. We have begun the steps to build a shelter. Join us!
